Lone Star Cowboy Church began as an idea. How can we reach the cowboys in the area and get them interested in church? The answer is start with an arena.
On Easter Sunday 2007 we held our first service in the Fannie Mae room at the Navarro County Youth Expo Arena. A worship team and music ministry team came from the Lone Star Cowboy Church of Ellis County to support the start-up of our church. The church started with a handful of people the first few weeks, but as word got out, the attendance grew. We made good use of the arena at the Expo Center holding events that introduced us to the community. Our first Christmas children’s program featured 4 children (3 of which are still attending our church today and are a positive influence on the current group of children).
By January of 2008 we had outgrown the Fannie Mae room. We purchased acreage just a mile west of the Expo Center and in April 2008 we started building an arena, then the church. On July 20, 2008 we held our first service in the new church, with a Lil’ Wranglers event in the arena, and family-oriented events on the grounds. Our first Truck or Treat event brought in about 300 people most of them children and went a long way to introducing us to the community.
By 2009 our attendance was on a steady growth with many families with children playing an active part in all of our services and activities. With this group and to help us meet the spiritual needs of our children we constructed the children’s building. By 2010 we had outgrown our church building and added more space to accommodate the current attendance. We have since increased the size of the children’s building and the arena to meet our growth and activity level. We are holding Team Roping, Team Sorting, Ranch Rodeo, the annual Truck or Treat, and other family events in the arena on a regular basis. Currently we are working on an expansion plan to enlarge the sanctuary, provide space for the youth and for the nursery and toddlers to meet our current needs with room for growth for the future.
At Lone Star we are a family, we play together, eat together (a lot), praise together, worship together, and pray together. We welcome everyone, no matter where you are in your walk with Christ, with a welcoming smile and a handshake.
